When you attend your enrolment session, you’ll receive your Induction Week timetable, so you’ll know what to expect when you start college. Induction Week begins Wednesday 2nd September.

During Induction Week, you’ll meet your tutors, get settled into college and receive your timetable for the rest of the academic year. We’re looking forward to welcoming all our new and returning learners and getting the new college year started!

There is a national skills shortage in the software development industry, making now the perfect time to enhance your abilities and join this growing sector. The Level 3 Software Development course helps you build on your programming skills and develop new software knowledge through practical work, presentations, and reports..

You will study a variety of units designed to expand your understanding of the field. Topics include JavaScript, object-oriented programming (OOP), general programming techniques, robotics, and software testing. The combination of theory and hands-on experience ensures you gain the practical and analytical skills that employers are looking for.

As part of the one-year course, you will also have the opportunity to top up your maths and English skills if needed, helping you strengthen essential skills for further study, higher-level apprenticeships, or employment in the software and IT sector.

By completing this course, you will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Software Development, opening doors to higher education, apprenticeships, or a career in the technology industry.

Entry requirements

To study this course you require 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including maths and English.

Costs

This course is free for students aged 16 or over but under 19 on 31 August 2026. For adults (aged 19+) this course is partially funded by the Government, depending on circumstances you may be eligible for full funding. To be eligible for funding, you must be a UK resident or have lived in the country for three or more years. Find out more here
