ENTRY to higher education and degree apprenticeships in engineering is set to be made easier by a new Skills Bootcamps course launched by Lakes College.

The college has developed a bridging course which is available with a heavy discount of between 70 and 90 per cent for employers and free for learners who meet certain criteria.

The Level 3 course aims to bridge the gap to entry to higher apprenticeships and technician-level employment in a wide range of engineering disciplines.

The course will provide opportunities for candidates who have existing qualification experience at Level 2 and 3 experience but wish to bridge this experience to STEM higher areas.

The programme will include:

  • Maths for engineers
  • Science for engineers
  • Study and employment skills
  • Engineering workshops in mechanical and electrical engineering leading to a project

All sessions will be delivered in the National College for Nuclear at Lakes College.

Studying the course costs £2,998 per learner but that figure is heavily reduced for large employers by 70 per cent to just £899.40.

Micro, small and medium employers earn an even greater reduction of 90 per cent, making the course fantastic value for money at £299.80.

The training is free for individuals who are:

  • aged over 19
  • working, unemployed in the last 12 months or looking for work (e.g. coming back into the workforce after a career break)
  • resident in the UK and legally entitled to work in the UK

The course is also free for learners who are in work but not sponsored by their employer.

The course will start on Thursday, September 14th 2023 and run for 12 weeks.

A GCSE Grade 4 or above in maths, English and science is required in order for learners to study the course.
