Introduction

Looking for adult (19+) Maths and English courses? Click here for info

Maths and English GCSE at a Grade 4 (C) or equivalent is often a requirement for employment, apprenticeships and entry to university-level education.

As these subjects could potentially be a limiting factor in your future success and employment opportunities, the college endeavours to make these subjects as engaging, accessible and relevant to your area of study as possible, no matter what your ability. In exchange for this we expect your full commitment in terms of attendance, effort and ambition for achievement.

Will I study Maths and English?

Do I need to study Maths and English at Lakes College?

If you achieved Grade 4 (C) or higher at GCSE level in Maths and English Language, you will continue to develop your skills through your full-time course. You will not require any additional Maths or English lessons.

If you achieved a Grade 3 (D) in Maths, English or both then you will study and resit these subjects alongside your course with the aim of progressing to a Grade 4 (C) level.

If you achieved a GCSE grade E/grade 2 or below then you will study Functional Skills in either (or both) maths and English.

Ellie Burton Quote

“At college I find it's more interactive, the classes are smaller and quieter which helps me specifically. The teachers go at the speed you need to go at and won't rush anything, they'll stop and help until you understand it fully.”
