At Lakes College, we know that a young person’s journey through education is stronger when it’s supported by partnership. That’s why we’re committed to working closely with parents and carers every step of the way.

Whether your child is following a full-time study programme or developing their career through an apprenticeship, this section is here to keep you informed, involved and reassured. You’ll find practical advice, key information and useful contacts to help you support your young person throughout their time here.

How we support your child / young person

We’re committed to helping every learner succeed – whether they’re on a full-time study programme or gaining skills through an apprenticeship.

Each student is supported by a dedicated Progress and Welfare Coach who monitors attendance, sets targets, and provides regular feedback. Our tutors, support staff and careers team work closely together to help learners stay motivated, make progress and plan their next steps – whether that’s further study, an apprenticeship, or employment.

We also provide:

Personalised learning support for those with additional needs

Wellbeing and mental health support via our Student Services team and onsite college counsellor

Careers guidance including employer talks, CV writing and interview skills

Work placements we support all learners to secure real-life experiences in their chosen careers

Enrichment opportunities to help students grow in confidence and independence

Attendance and behaviour

We encourage learners to treat college like the workplace – with professionalism, good timekeeping and respect for others

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

Lakes College is a safe, inclusive and respectful place for all students. We take our safeguarding responsibilities seriously and have dedicated staff in place to support students’ wellbeing.

Personalised learning support

We are committed to taking positive steps to provide a supportive environment for all students. We provide for a range of SEND needs.

MyLakes App

Every learner will have access to the MyLakes app where they can view their timetable, report absences, find out about upcoming events and chat with tutors and classmates

Maths and English top-up

If your child has not passed their maths of English GCSEs at secondary school, they will study these subjects alongside their course

Progress and Welfare Coaches

Every learner is supported by a Progress and Welfare Coach throughout their time at Lakes College

Yes, you can contact your child’s tutor via the main college number (01946 839300) or their college emails. Tutors will hold two Progress Evenings during the academic year to discuss their

We offer tailored support through our Learning Support team. If your child has an EHCP or learning difficulty, please let us know so we can put the correct support in place

Eligible students can apply for a bursary, free meals, and travel support. Visit our Financial page above, or call the finance team (01946 839300) directly.

There is no formal uniform, but we ask learners to dress appropriately for a professional learning environment. Some courss will require Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which will be provided to learners.

Each full-time student has a coach, who will support them during their time in college.
