The Foundation Degree in Digital Technologies is a flexible and industry-aligned program designed to equip students with the practical and theoretical skills essential for a successful career in the digital and computing sector. Offering two specialist pathways—Networking and Software Development—this qualification allows learners to focus their studies based on individual interests and career goalstudents will engage in hands-on learning, real-world projects, and develop technical proficiency across key areas of digital technologies. Delivered either full-time over two years or part-time over four years, the course structure is ideal for those seeking to balance education with employment or other responsibilities.
Level 4 (Core modules for all learners):.
Computer Systems; Programming; Maths for Computing; Operating Systems; Networking; Cyber Security Fundamentals; Data Science and Analytics; Scenario-Based Project.
These foundational modules develop essential knowledge and skills across computing disciplines, enabling students to build confidence and capability in a wide range of technical environments.
Year 2 / Level 5 (Pathway-specific modules):.
Core modules: Cloud Systems; Emerging Technology; Individual Project.
Software Development Pathway: Web Development; Object-Oriented Programming; Systems Analysis and Design.
Networking Pathway: Network Infrastructure; Network Security; Network Administration..
Entry requirements
All candidates will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course.
Suitable achievement of a Level 3 qualification is expected for entry onto the Level 4 course, the equivalent of 2 A-Levels at grade D or higher (48 UCAS points) will be required in a related subject. There is also requirement for 5 GCSEs (including maths and English) at a grade 4/C or equivalent (such as functional skills). Alternatively, candidates applying with an appropriate professional background will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
All candidates who are successful at the interview stage will be given a short initial assessment to complete, this will be used to assess the candidates academic and written ability, to ensure they are a fit for the level of the course.

Graduates of the Foundation Degree can progress directly into employment or choose to top up to a full BSc (Hons) degree. The course is ideal for individuals looking to launch or advance a career.
Learners who complete the Software Development route of the FD will have job opportunities including (but not limited to): junior software development, junior software engineering, junior software tester, junior web developer, junior database administrator, junior data scientist, and junior business analyst.
Learners who complete the Networking route of the FD will have job opportunities including (but not limited to): Network Administrator, Network Security Engineer, Network Engineer & Network Specialist.
