This course is for those who would like to further develop their knowledge of sporting practice with a particular emphasis on developing athletic ability and investigating how elite sport functions in order to gain employment within the sector.

This dynamic course includes topics such as anatomy and physiology, sports coaching and fitness testing, the athletics lifestyle, organising a sports event and practical individual sports.

The modules have been chosen to reflect employment opportunities in the area such as physiotherapy, sports coaching and personal training.

You will learn how to organise your own sports event, and a number of coaching sessions will be held throughout the year. You will also complete a proportion of your course through work placement.

You will work with external partners to delivery primary school sport sessions and events.

Whilst studying on this course you will have free access to the college’s sport and gym facilities.

By completing this course, you will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity.

Entry requirements

To study this course you will need four GCSEs Grade 4 or above including maths and English.

Costs

Free to all 16-18 year olds. Funding may be available for 19-23 year olds. Advanced Learning Loans are available for further education courses at Level 3, 4 & 5. They operate like higher education loans with deferred payments until you earn over approximately £25,000 per year- information available at www.gov.uk
You have the option of taking out a loan or setting up a payment plan with the college that best suits your needs. Actual Cost is: £2882.00. All costs are subject to slight changes.

What next?

Once you have completed the 1-year Diploma, you can advance onto the 1-year Extended Diploma. You could then go to university or seek employment within the industry. This course could lead to a career in sports coaching, sports therapy, personal training, sports development, strength & conditioning coach or teaching.
