Level 3 Accelerated Robotics Course
Upskill into robotics and automation – free, hands-on, and industry-driven. Starting February 2026.
Introduction
Gain hands-on robotics skills that employers need.
The Level 3 Accelerated Robotics Course at Lakes College is a free 3-week, full-time programme designed for individuals with existing engineering knowledge or qualifications who want to cross-skill or upskill into robotics and automation.
Delivered at the National College for Nuclear (NCfN) in West Cumbria, this intensive course combines technical training, practical learning, and industry collaboration to meet the growing demand for skilled technicians in the UK’s automation and nuclear sectors.
Introduction
Why Choose This Course?
The UK faces a critical skills shortage in robotics and automation, particularly in the nuclear, manufacturing, and process industries. This course directly addresses that need by giving engineers and technicians the skills to apply robotics and control technologies safely and effectively in real-world environments.
You’ll gain hands-on experience with industrial robots, simulation software, and PLC systems — learning by doing in a modern, industry-standard facility.
Introduction
What You’ll Learn
Through three practical units, you’ll develop both the technical knowledge and the applied skills needed to work with robotics and automated systems:
- Unit 1 – Introduction to Robotics & Remote Handling (30 hours)
- Unit 2 – Introduction to Robot Programming & Simulation (30 hours)
- Unit 3 – Industrial Control Systems (30 hours)
Learning Approach
Learning Approach
-
90 guided learning hours of face-to-face, experiential learning – focused on “learning from doing.”
-
Scenario-based and project-based assessments built around industry case studies, particularly from the nuclear sector.
-
Each assessment mirrors real workplace challenges:
-
Robot work cell layout design
-
Step-by-step programming and simulation
-
PLC ladder logic development and testing
-
