Update for employers and apprentices regarding Covid-19 situation 10/06/2020
Further to my previous correspondence, I am sharing our latest update on the college’s position.
Following the latest Government advice that colleges should offer some face to face contact with small groups of students, we are aiming to reopen to specific learners from the week commencing Monday, June 15.
We understand the importance of our apprentices and learners having some face to face access with their tutors and returning to college to get hands-on experience. However, the safety of all our students and staff must come first.
The senior leadership team at the college has been working tirelessly to ensure the safety of everyone and a number of risk assessments have been carried out. This will ensure any return to college can be managed safely and in line with Government guidance, particularly around social distancing.
Anybody who enters the college – whether it be a member of staff, student, visitor or apprentice – must now watch a safety video and correctly answer a number of questions.
The small group of students who are eligible to return from June 15 will be contacted individually. These learners will greatly benefit by completing practical assessment by their tutors which cannot be carried out remotely.
When those eligible do return, they will not be following previous timetables, and their time in the college will be limited. Remote working will continue to supplement the practical tasks.
All of our other learners will continue to work remotely, supported online by their tutors.
We are also looking ahead to the next academic year, starting in September. We are planning to introduce a blended approach which will include a mix of remote learning offsite as well as learners and apprentices physically coming into the college.
National, scientific guidance is changing daily and this will be used as a basis for our more detailed plans. We will, of course, be releasing regular updates. The best way to keep up to date with the situation is through our website, where we have a dedicated Covid-19 page, www.lcwc.ac.uk/coronavirus
Once again, can I take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of the college.
