Student Voice

Providing our learners with local & national opportunities!

Introduction

The college has excellent links with local and national organisations, who provide Lakes College students with opportunities to get involved with a variety of activities and schemes, both locally and nationally.

NUS (National Union of Students)

As a student of Lakes College you are entitled to become a member of the National Union of Students. For you to gain the benefits of this student discount card there will be a £12 joining fee, which carries a wider range of discounts than ever before! This includes discounts for Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins, JJB, New Look, PC World, Blockbuster, Amazon, ASOS, Miss Selfridge and much much more!

Call in to Student Services for an application form or register online at www.nus.org.uk.

Social

Lakes College works with local function venues to organise regular social events. The events are well attended and a great way to get together to celebrate all the hard work. Various competitions and events are also organised throughout the year to socialise with students from other departments and colleges.

Student Ambassadors

Each year we ask for students to volunteer and become student ambassadors. These roles are important to the college as it enables us to get up-to-date feedback from a student perspective. You will voice issues from your peers in order to make the college a better place for everyone.

As a student ambassador you will be asked to attend meetings throughout the year, create working groups so that we can get students involved in organising activities such as fundraising events and sporting competitions, as well as recruit people to represent the student voice throughout college committees.

In return we will give you a certificate, which you can present as part of your CV, highlighting your contribution to the college as a course representative. The experience of being a student ambassador is fundamental to your personal development as it is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your interpersonal and communication skills.
