Study a university level course… on your doorstep!
THERE’S plenty of choice available at Lakes College for those who want to study for a university level course right on their doorstep.
As well as offering higher level courses in subjects such as fine art, business and education, the Lillyhall-based college is a driving force in engineering and science programmes.
For the past 50 years the college – now supported by the National College for Nuclear – has been successfully delivering these programmes.
They include Higher Nationals, Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees.
New, full time programmes, have also been developed under validation by the University of Cumbria, with some starting this month and also in January.
Paul Fairclough, director of teaching and learning at the National College for Nuclear, is passionate about delivering the university-level courses in west Cumbria.
He said it’s a great opportunity at the moment for those who may have delayed moving away to university due to the current climate, to study the same level of education without leaving the area.
“I am delighted with the new developments within our provision and the extension of our partnership with the University of Cumbria to now include full time higher education degree studies in engineering, science and nuclear courses,” added Mr Fairclough.
“These courses are packaged to provide students with an opportunity to study locally and gain either a full degree in west Cumbria or university credits providing advanced entry to other university degrees elsewhere in the country.
“This is an ideal option for those reluctant to leave the county under these uncertain times.”
The courses available include: Higher Nationals in either electrical or mechanical engineering; Foundation degrees in chemistry, electrical power and nuclear decommissioning and Honours degrees in electrical, mechanical and nuclear.
