The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care is designed to develop essential knowledge and understanding for anyone supporting individuals living with dementia. This qualification explores the experience of dementia from the perspective of the individual, the families and the professionsal who provide care. Learners will gain strong foundation in the key principles of demetia care, including person-centred approached, communication strategies, the impact of demetntia on behaviour, and how to support health, well-being, and safeguarding.

The course also covers different types of dementia, the importance of early diagnosis. and the role of postive, enabling environements. This qualification is ideal for those working in the health and social care sesstings, as we as anyone wishing to develop their undering to support a future career in adult care. community roles, or specialist dementia services.

The courses takes place for three hours, over 7 sessions, starting on April 21st 2026.

Costs

*This course is free for adults aged 19-plus if they are unemployed, or earn below £35,000. It is also free for all adults aged 19-23-years-old who do not already hold a Level 2 qualification. You must also meet UK residency requirements. To study this course for free you must provide evidence of income/employment status.

What next?

Will prepare learners to have further knowledge and support with Dementia Care. Learners who achieve this qualification could progress on to a Level 3 course.
