This course introduces learners to the essential skills needed to confidently use a camera and create visually engaging images. This practical, hands-on course allows learners to explore photography through a range of techniques, experimenting with composition, lighting, and subject matter to develop their creative abilities. Learners will gain experience using a camera in different ways, building an understanding of how to capture effective photographs across a variety of styles and settings.

As part of the course, students will also develop basic editing skills and learn how to present their work as part of a creative portfolio. This qualification is ideal for those with an interest in photography or the wider art and design sector, offering a supportive introduction to creative media. Upon completion, learners will have the foundational knowledge and practical experience needed to progress to higher-level. The six-week course takes place on a Tuesday evening between 4.30pm and 7pm in our art studio, from April 14th 2026.

To study this course you must demonstrate an interest in the subject area.

Costs

*This course is free for adults aged 19-plus if they are unemployed, or earn below £35,000. It is also free for all adults aged 19-23-years-old who do not already hold a Level 1 qualification. You must also meet UK residency requirements. To study this course for free you must provide evidence of income/employment status.
