The BTEC Introductory Award in Art and Design with a focus on ceramics provides learners with a practical and engaging introduction to working creatively with clay. This hands-on course is ideal for those who want to explore the fundamental techniques involved in ceramic design and production. Learners will develop key skills in preparing clay, forming shapes, and using a range of methods to create different styles of ceramic pieces. They will also learn essential decorating techniques, including glazing and surface design, to enhance the ceramics they produce.

Throughout the course, students are encouraged to experiment, problem-solve, and express their creativity through their work. Projects are designed to build confidence and introduce the artistic processes used within professional ceramic practice. This qualification offers an excellent starting point for further study in art and design and provides a strong foundation for progressing into more advanced creative pathways or related craft-based careers.

The six-week course takes place on a Wednesday evening between 4.30pm and 7pm, starting on April 15th 2026.
