Course Description
Begin your career in the vibrant hair and beauty sector with this introductory Level 1 Certificate at Lakes College. Perfect for those with little or no previous experience, this course offers a friendly, hands‑on introduction to the essential skills needed to work in salons, spas, or customer‑facing beauty environments.
You’ll learn the foundations of hairdressing and beauty therapy, including basic styling, skin care, grooming techniques, and professional standards. Alongside practical activities, you’ll develop key employability skills such as communication, teamwork, customer service, and maintaining a safe and hygienic workplace. This qualification is an excellent starting point for anyone considering a future in hair, beauty, or barbering, or for learners who want to progress onto Level 2 programmes. With guidance from experienced industry specialists, you’ll gain confidence, build practical skills, and prepare for the next step towards a rewarding career in the hair and beauty industry.
This Level 1 course begins on April 20th and ends on May 8th and will take place between 10am and 2pm, Monday to Friday at Lakes College.

*This course is free for adults aged 19-plus if they are unemployed, or earn below £35,000. It is also free for all adults aged 19-23-years-old who do not already hold a Level 1 qualification. You must also meet UK residency requirements. To study this course for free you must provide evidence of income/employment status.
