What made you choose an apprenticeship with Lakes College?

Having already studied business and accounting at the college I knew what to expect, which is a very high standard of work and a lot of help from tutors. Lakes College is a very friendly place and you are made to feel very comfortable from day 1. I have also had a lot of my friends have apprenticeships through Lakes College before me and they said that the college was a good place to do my apprenticeship due to the amount of support you get from the tutors.

What do you love about your apprenticeship?

The thing that I love the most about my apprenticeship is that I am doing something that I love while learning on that job. Doing this apprenticeship my confidence has gown massively because I have clicked with all other employees very well. I also love the fact that there is never a time where I am sat doing nothing, there is always something to be doing whether it be my assignments for college or work in the office.

What would you say to somebody who is considering doing an apprenticeship?

If you are considering doing an apprenticeship… GO FOR IT! I don’t have any disadvantages to doing an apprenticeship. You are learning while doing the job, not just sat in the classroom listening to someone talk – it is just like a full-time job. Plus you get paid!

Has studying an apprenticeship with us helped you in terms of employability and learning skills on the job?

Yes. I feel as if I have practiced and developed many skills that could help me in future job roles. I have developed skills that I already had and gained many new skills. I have became a lot more confident through this apprenticeship, and not just confident in the job – my confidence elsewhere has grown.

What support did you receive during your apprenticeship?

I received a lot of support during my apprenticeship from both college and Paisleys. I have a regular meeting with Nicola from college to check on my assignments and see how I’m doing. The other employees at Paisleys are always there if I need a hand with anything even though they have their own work to be doing.
