Introduction

We are proud to offer a number of electrical short courses throughout the year.

These are either full day or night classes with the majority taking place in our £7million Construction Skills Centre.

Courses

This qualification is intended for practicing electricians who want to expand their skills and knowledge in the area of Initial Verification and/or Periodic Inspection and continue their professional development.

It aims to provide the specialist knowledge and skills needed, including appropriate legislation, inspection and testing techniques, completing and issuing certificates or reports and understanding of results and measurements.

The course starts on Tuesday, September 21st and runs for 10 weeks on a Tuesday evening between 5.30pm and 8pm. There will then be an exam on November 8th.

There will be a further 10 week course starting on Tuesday, February 1st.

The 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations forms the national standard to which all new and amended electrical installations in the UK are to comply.

All electrical professionals are urged to ensure they are familiar with the changes and the requirements.

Entry requirements

You must have experience or be competent within the electrical industry to study this course.

  • The latest standards and requirements for installs
  • Guidance on Arc Fault Detection Devices for rented accommodation
  • Changes to Residual Current-Device (RCD) protection

This is a new course intended for personnel in electrical contracting companies who have responsibility for the quality of the design, specification, installation and testing process.

WHAT DOES THE QUALIFICATION COVER?

This course allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required designing and scoping electrical installations.

WHY STUDY THIS COURSE?

By completing this course over a series of evening classes you can gain Electrician Technician status allowing you to potentially jump to higher wages.

Course dates

Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, for 12 weeks.

This qualification is aimed at practicing electricians interested in understanding how to install the range of equipment and systems available, it covers the specialised installation requirements of electric vehicle charging equipment in public, private and commercial locations and includes exclusive guidance on electrical requirements.

WHAT DOES THE QUALIFICATION COVER?

This qualification aims to provide expert guidance to learners wishing to gain knowledge and understanding on electric vehicle charging equipment installation.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This course is suitable for those who already hold an 18th Edition qualification and an Electrical Inspection and Testing qualification (or equivalent).

WHAT DOES THE COURSE ALLOW ME TO DO?

Completing this course proves your competence and skills in installation of home charging points. On completion of this course you will be able to apply for OLEV grants for each home charging point fitting you undertake.

WHAT IS THE OLEV GRANT?

The OLEV grant is a government grant for electric car home chargers, provided by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).

  • The OLEV grant, specifically named the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), provides up to £500 off a domestic home charging point fitting, and up to £5000 off a commercial fitting.
  • It’s available for most electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars.
  • You can claim one chargepoint per eligible vehicle and up to two eligible vehicles per household.

2377: In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT) & the Management Requirements for the Maintenance of Electrical Equipment (Level 3).

Entry Requirements

Aged 18 or above, (a knowledge of electrical systems and hazards of electricity would be beneficial).

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed with both a practical and multiple choice test.

What next?

Once you have applied and payment has been made, you will be contacted via email with instructions on how to access the online elements of the course.

Once you’ve completed one of the Level 3 courses you can progress on to our Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396).
