Student Association
Throughout college you will have the opportunity to get involved with a range of extra curricular activities and representing your course.
The college has good links with local and national organisations including Weston Spirit, the National Union of Students and Millennium Volunteers. These organisations all provide Lakes College students with opportunities to get involved with a variety of activities and schemes in the local area.
NUS
As a student of Lakes College you are entitled to become a member of the National Union of Students. This year NUS have changed their discount card and joining now costs £12.00 but the NUS Extra card carries a wider range of discounts and offers than ever before! This includes discounts for Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins, JJB, New Look, PC World, Blockbuster, Amazon, ASOS, Miss Selfridge and much much more!
Call in to Student Services for an application form or register online at www.nusextra.co.uk.
There is also the opportunity to attain a Democracy Card from Student Services but will not carry any discounts - it denotes membership of the local and national students union, providing access to democratic processes and to some areas of nusonline.co.uk
Social
Lakes College works with local function venues to organise regular social events. The events are well attended and a great way to celebrate all the hard work and get together. Various competitions and events are also organised throughout the year to socialise with students from other departments and colleges.
Course Representatives
Each year we ask for students to volunteer and become course representatives. These roles are important to the college as it enables us to get up to date feedback from a student perspective. You will voice issues from your peers in order to make the college a better place for everyone. As a course representative you will be asked to attend meetings throughout the year, create working groups so that we can get students involved in organising activities such as fundraising events and sporting competitions as well as recruit people to represent the student voice throughout college committees. In return we will give you a certificate, which you can include in your record of achievement and CV about your contribution to the college as a course representative. In addition you will also be entitled to a half price NUS discount card, extra printing credit, a USB memory stick and the opportunity to earn high street vouchers by representing the college at marketing events. The experience of being a course rep is fundamental to your personal development as it will improve your interpersonal and communication skills.
