Lakes College Just the Job Students raise money for Comic Relief

Lakes College ‘Just the Job’ students have raised a grand total of £290.11 for Comic Relief.

The group of eight students put on a number of activities at the College, including a cake sale, raffle, tombola, as well as hosting a ‘Pie the Principal’ event. They also got a number of other departments involved in the fundraiser; beauty students painted people’s nails in comic relief colours and made lip balm, while the catering department provided homemade soup to sell. Morrisons at Workington provided a food hamper, which was the main prize in the raffle.

Kayleigh Toman, 19, from Maryport, says, ‘We did really well getting everyone else involved. We couldn’t have done it without the help and support of our tutor.’

Andrew Moncrief, 20, from Cleator Moor, adds, ‘I enjoyed the activity so much, and we raised money for a really good cause.’

Several members of the group also took part in other events to raise money, such as a sponsored hair dye and a sponsored badminton match.

Dianne Wilcock, a Lakes College Curriculum Operations Leader, who helped the students to organise the event, adds, ‘They’ve all worked so hard and I’m so proud of everything they’ve achieved. It was great to see all the students getting involved and organising it all. ’

A spokesperson for Morrisons comments, ‘Morrisons are always happy to help local causes and it has been a pleasure to work with the students and help local people.’

‘Just the Job’ provides young people with vulnerabilities access to supported work placements and the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised employability qualification, Level 1 Diploma in Work Skills.
