Governance

The way in which the Board must operate is set out in the Instrument and Articles of Governance and the Standing Orders and associated documents.

Overall responsibility for the College rests with the College Corporation, a charitable organisation managed by Governors (or trustees), with considerable powers for the provision of further and higher education.

The Corporation operates within a legislative framework, which gives guidance on its responsibilities, among which is to set the strategic direction of the College, keep an oversight of activities, ensure its financial solvency and the effective and efficient use of resources.

Governors bring a mix of experience to their stewardship, including financial, health and safety, legal skills and community input. They meet eight times a year as a Board and take decisions on financial issues, approve policies, procedures and strategies and monitor their effectiveness. The meetings are governed by locally-agreed procedures.

Governors also offer support and challenge to the Principal in her day-to-day management of the College, from which they are one step removed.

If you are passionate about education, feel you have the skills to contribute and would like further information about this rewarding role, then please contact the Clerk to the Governors, Jane Murray on 01900 839 300
