About Our College

Lakes College West Cumbria

Message from the principal Cath Richardson

“I think people might be surprised to learn we educated an average of 5,500 students per year, that’s approximately 5% of the total population of working age of Allerdale and Copeland that pass through our doors each year. We also work closely with local employers and a conservative estimate of how many individual businesses we work with over the course of a year would be 250. We also employ almost 300 local people and have an annual turnover of around £11 million so the chances are everyone out there knows someone who has studied here, worked with us or worked for us, meaning we have great potential to be able to make a difference in, and shape the future of, west Cumbria.”

The £11 million campus building includes a Learning Resource Centre with over 90 on-line computers, a superb library and plenty of study space. There is also a café, restaurant, shop with a Starbucks concession, hair and beauty treatment salon, workshops, art and design studios and an impressive range of sports facilities including: a sports hall, tennis courts, rugby and football pitches, fitness suite, free weights gym and a floodlit multi-use games area.
At Lakes College West Cumbria students are taught everything from basic skills through to post graduate level subjects on a full or part-time basis, either in college, at centres near to where they live, in their workplace or even at home.
